Officially resigning as California Senator
Today January 18th marked the last day, Kamala Harris will be representing the State of California at the Federal Senate she formally presented her letter of resignation to California's governor Gavin Newsom after being sworn in 2017 becoming the Second Black and First South Asian woman to enter the Senate.
In an op-ed for the San Francisco Chronicles, Kamala wrote that serving in the senate had been an Honor and this is not a goodbye but a see you on the other side of the legislative branch as she will be presiding over the chamber. With a senate in equilibrium, Kamala will be the tie-breaker, she reference this by saying,"And this is not goodbye. As I resign from the Senate, I am preparing to take an oath that would have me preside over it, as senator-turned-Vice-President Walter Mondale once pointed out, the vice presidency is the only office in our government that 'belongs to both the executive branch and the legislative branch.' A responsibility made greater with an equal number of Democrats and Republicans in the Senate."
