Happy Belated Saint Patrick's Day to all.
On this Wednesday, it was an all Irish day for Madam Vice President:
1) She began the day with her first bilateral video call with Ireland's Taoiseach Micheál Martin held at the Ceremonial office.
During the call, Madam Vice President re-affirm the steadfast and strong America's commitment to strengthen US-Ireland's bilateral and multilateral relationship. Vice President Harris said she had been very excited to hear that one of her responsibilities as vice-president was to host the annual St Patrick’s Day breakfast.
“I only wish that it were in person, but we can hope for next year that we will share a good breakfast together.”
During the call, MVP spoke about the economic ties between both, referencing how her own home state of California being the headquarters of many American and Irish companies especially those in the tech industry.
President Biden joined in on the call on his arrival to the White House.
2) Later on the video conference move to the Southern Auditorium, where Madam Vice President and Taoiseach Martin spoke and held a virtual meeting with the recipients of the Frederick Douglass fellowship.
The Frederick Douglas fellowship was named after the famous abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglas who was deeply impacted by his four-month trip to Ireland in the 19th centuries and was established as a scholarship programme that offers American students of colour the opportunity to study in Ireland.
3) Following that call, Madam Vice President also held a virtual call with two Northern Ireland's leaders Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader and First Minister Arlene Foster and Joint Head of Governemnt Michelle O’Neill.
This meeting was part of Madam Vice President's engagement to research and develop her foreign policy's portfolio as well as interest in Northern Ireland's affairs especially during this BREXIT moments.
4) Later on she administer the Oath of Office in a swear in ceremony for a new member of the Biden-Harris Administration in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building . Michael Regan was nominated as the United States Environmental Protection Agency's administration in a Senate vote of 66-34 becoming the first black man and 16th EPA Administrator.
5) Madam Vice President spoke and heavily condemn the deadly racist shootings against Asian-Americans which took place in Atlanta, Georgia where eight people died at a series of spas.
Madam Vice President who had previously spoken about the heavy spike in racist attacks against the diverse Asian communities in America, said the shooting also spoke to the "larger issue" of violence. During her video call with Taoiseach Martin, MVP said "Our country, the President and I and all of us, we grieve for the loss. Our prayers are extended to the families of those who have been killed, and it speaks to a larger issue, which is the issue of violence in our country and what we must do to never tolerate it and to always speak out against it."
